WELCOME TO 3a-NOTE Ever had to suddenly make a note of a phone number or a name and not wanted, or had the time, to open a completely new .WRD file for it ? Well here is a fast solution. 3a-Note is a very simple, DATA based cardfile which allows you to rapidly enter 4 lines of 80 characters for each of 6 record cards. It was inspired by Carl Littlejohns 'Stikkie' (1992) - indeed this version contains much of Carl's original code. I used Stikkie so much with my S3 Classic, that when I upgraded to a S3a, I re-wrote the original program to take advantage of the increased screen size etc. INSTALLATION: A MCLINK installation routine is supplied which will install the app and .dbf file onto the INTERNAL drive - you may wish to edit it for your own use. Use RFM, MCLINK, or WINLINK to copy as follows: 1. 3a-NOTE.OPA to \APP\ on any drive. 2. 3NT.DBF to \3NT\ on any drive - this file is written to each time you edit or change a Note so you may wish to avoid using FLASH drives. 3a-Note will create a \3NT\3NT.DBF file if for any reason you have deleted the original with its welcome message. The message is designed to be deleted on first usage. Install the application in the normal way anywhere on your system screen and leave it running. It takes 12K of system memory. I would recommend that you install it LAST on the system screen so that PSION+END will take you there quickly - speed being the object of the exercise. A further enhancement would be to re-assign the SHEET function key to 'NOTE' and then a single press will have you up and running. (This assumes that you don't use SHEET on a very regular basis). HOW TO USE 3a-NOTE: Run the application. Press keys 1-6 to add or edit each of 6 record 'cards' which will take 4 lines of text up to 80 characters long. The screen line shows the first 40 characters of the record. Pressing HELP will bring up an instruction reminder. Pressing MENU will allow access to ABOUT and EXIT. This is now the only way of exiting 3a-NOTE and closing the .DBF file from within the app. (Stikkie users will remember that ESC exited and closed the file and I for one was always pressing the wrong key). The contents of each record card are DATA compatible and can be cut & pasted to other applications using the main application. 3a-NOTE is FREEWARE. You may freely distribute 3a-NOTE.ZIP provided that : 1. All the original files are included (in particular, this READ-ME.TXT). 2. NO charge is made other than to cover the fair and reasonable costs of distribution. Any distribution of 3a-NOTE that renders any form of commercial advantage (financial or otherwise) to the distributor is forbidden. 3. Whilst I've done my best, this is an amateur production and therefore the author does not warrant that the software is error free and he disclaims all and any warranties relating to the software. 4. Under no circumstances shall the author be liable for consequential, incidental or indirect damages of any kind arising from the use of 3a-NOTE. This means that if you loose the number of a Swiss Bank account which holds your life savings or the company pension fund - tough, that's your problem. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS: Carl Littlejohns for the Stikkie concept and access to the original code. Chris Hennings of Right Hand Software Ltd for his advice and the system icon which comes from ICONBOX 2.02. REVISION HISTORY: 'Stikkie' Ver. 1.0 - 1992. Carl Littlejohns original for the S3 Classic. '3a-NOTE' Ver 1.0 - Feb. 1994. Heavily hacked original, flaky, but it worked most of the time.
